History is within reach here – but it is also a long time ago. The Grandhotel Petersberg has therefore been carefully modernized and brought into the future. Opened in 1892, the neo-baroque spa hotel, where the Petersberg Agreement was signed in 1949, presents architectural challenges. For example, due to fears of terrorist attacks, there were hardly any escape routes in the hotel, so a completely new concept had to be developed here, as well as for fire protection. All work was carried out while the hotel remained open. While a third of the building was being renovated, it initially continued to operate as a small boutique hotel. After completion of the first construction phase, the range of services on offer gradually expanded until the Grandhotel Petersberg finally shone in new splendor as a luxury hotel. In spring 2016, the new beer garden was opened, adding 300 seats for day trippers to the historic hotel terrace with its characteristic lime trees and wonderful panorama of the Rhine.
