An award-winning architectural
ensemble: Michaelsberg Abbey receives
another award

October 20, 2018

Michaelsberg Abbey in Siegburg, home to the Catholic Social Institute, already won the Iconic Award in 2017 and has now been given the prestigious German Design Award for 2018.

The German Design Award is the international premium prize from the German Design Council. Every year, top-notch entries are honored, all of which are groundbreaking in their own way in the international design scene. Launched in 2012, the German Design Award is one of the most recognized design competitions worldwide.

The Special Mention award recognizes works whose design features particularly successful aspects or solutions, such as the new construction and renovation of Michaelsberg Abbey in Siegburg. Its special features: a stone cube growing out of the rock, a glass bridge connecting the former Benedictine abbey on Michaelsberg with the new building, and a landmark that shapes the landscape and the city of Siegburg.

The jury: "The coherent interior design concept with its clear and minimalist design is consistent throughout all rooms and conveys a restrained simplicity that is appropriate for such a place."
