To expand GIZ's existing office space in Eschborn, a communicative and sustainable new building is being constructed that will become the face of an entire campus. Two opposing wings form a six-story structure with an additional staggered floor. Slightly folded segments structure the wings, creating spaces in between, enabling visual connections, and providing additional light to the inner courtyard. The two-story covered inner courtyard and connecting bridges between the wings form the heart of the new building as communicative links. The highlight is the large arena staircase with seating steps connecting the ground floor and first floor. At the same time, it benefits the diverse uses such as restaurant, communication, auditorium, and co-working spaces. The use of materials and colors divides the building into a base and a standard floor section: the classic concrete base contrasts with the wood-hybrid construction of the upper floors. The design of the outdoor facilities also reflects GIZ's philosophy – lively and diverse structures create a high quality of stay: workspaces, play areas, and event spaces are located here as well as on the roof areas on various levels. This dissolves the separation between inside and outside in terms of a clear division of use. The new office building is a low-tech building that is designed with minimal technical equipment and is nevertheless sustainable in operation.
