Manhattan living in the vibrant east of Frankfurt. The competition entry for this expressive building ensemble marks the spectacular start of a new residential quarter. A total of 237 apartments, ranging from one-room apartments to spacious penthouses with roof gardens offering a unique view of the Main metropolis skyline, will be built on up to 16 floors.

The property is located at the junction of Gref-Völsing-Straße and Ferdinand-Happ-Straße and is the final piece in a neighborhood development project that began in 2004 on the converted site of the former freight station in Frankfurt's Ostend district.

"Skyline in miniature"

A linear high-rise building is divided into three distinct sections, which are in turn divided into segments that are offset from one another. The varying heights of the individual segments are reminiscent of a skyline silhouette with their staccato effect. A coordinated color and material palette for the facades creates a multi-layered and urban ensemble of residential towers. Strict perforated facades and incisions in the form of loggias and balconies shape the distinctive and timeless appearance.

In order to comply with the required lighting distances, the volume is centered on the property, creating generous open spaces on both sides. Both to the north and south, base buildings complement the ensemble, matching the height of the adjacent buildings and thus mediating between the high-rise and the surrounding buildings. To the east of Schwedler Carré is a central neighborhood square, from which all the buildings are accessed. The western open space is reserved for private gardens on the second floor.

There are 6–10 apartments on each of the standard floors. This number is reduced on the upper floors, culminating in the spacious penthouse apartments at the top of the tower. The apartments face east or west and can be connected if required. Larger residential units are dual-aspect and face both west and east.
