In a historic location in Munich, residential living has been redefined and elevated to a distinctive new standard. On the former site of the Paulaner brewery at Nockherberg in the Au-Haidhausen district, holger meyer architektur designed a classically timeless residential complex featuring a flexible mix of apartment types.
In collaboration with two other architectural firms, the overall design for the Hochstrasse site was developed through a workshop process. The concept expressively translates the underlying urban planning vision of amorphous city blocks composed of distinct groups of buildings. The result is a multi-layered ensemble of 13 new structures which, together with the existing buildings along Hochstrasse, form a polygonal perimeter block development.
The four buildings designed by holger meyer architektur present a confident and distinctive appearance, with their upper levels conceived as contemporary belvederes. At the same time, they adhere to a unified material concept based on the neighborhood’s design guidelines. The overarching façade composition, articulated with pronounced solid elements, reinforces the cubic character of the ensemble. Generous openings frame views of the surrounding park and allow daylight to penetrate deep into the interior spaces. The roof terraces—some designed as shared areas for urban gardening—define the silhouette of the development.
To accommodate a diverse range of living arrangements, numerous smaller residential units were created on the lower floors, while larger apartments are located on the upper levels. The penthouse units feature generously sized terraces. The entire neighborhood is constructed above an underground parking garage with 180 spaces, which are directly connected to the apartments via compact vertical circulation cores. holger meyer architektur also oversaw the overall coordination of the 14,000 m² project.
