The Architecture MasterPrize 2018 (AMP) went to meyerschmitzmorkramer three times: Michaelsberg Abbey in Siegburg won in two categories, and the Noerr law firm in Düsseldorf also received the coveted award.
Every year, the most interesting buildings in the world are selected. The Architecture MasterPrize 2018 shows how questions of monument renovation, urban development, and interior design can be answered intelligently and what the buildings of the future might look like. In 2018, two projects by meyerschmitzmorkramer received the prestigious Architecture MasterPrize (AMP): the carefully renovated former monastery on Michaelsberg in Siegburg and the interior design for the commercial law firm Noerr in Düsseldorf.
The prize is awarded to buildings that set standards, demonstrate exceptional qualities, and transcend boundaries. The Michaelsberg Abbey conference center by meyerschmitzmorkramer received the Architecture MasterPrize twice: in the Heritage Architecture category and in the Hospitality Architecture category. Michaelsberg Abbey, characterized by its materiality, content, and sensitive approach, already received two of the coveted MIPIM Awards in Cannes this year.
Caspar Schmitz-Morkramer, architect and founder of meyerschmitzmorkramer. "Michaelsberg deserves this recognition because it is a special project. It shows how exciting it is to work with historical buildings and that architecture does not have to follow every trend in a noisy age. We didn't want to create a stylistic gimmick here, but rather a clear building that combines tranquility and spirituality with architecture."
A second project by meyerschmitzmorkramer also received an award: the interior design of the Noerr law firm in Düsseldorf. It was honored with the Architecture MasterPrize in the Interior Design category as one of the best workplaces.
The Architecture MasterPrize jury is made up of top experts. Architects like Ben van Berkel, UN Studios, and institutions like Yale University and the Harvard Graduate School of Design pick the best buildings from 68 countries in 41 categories in the fields of architecture, interior design, and landscape design. The AMP is now one of the most recognized architecture awards and sets global standards for architecture and design.
